"No cell phone" signs will be installed in Grand Prairie school zones this March. Once installed, police officers will issue tickets to drivers spotted using cell phones in active school zones. Fines will be up to $200.

The Texas Legislature passed House Bill 55 in 2009 giving cities and counties the choice of whether or not to ban cell phone usage in school zones. In order for this to be enforced, signs must be posted. To be fined, the cell phone must be up to your ear and your vehicle must be in motion when the school zone is active. This means hands-free devices are acceptable and if you are stationary it is not against the law to have your cell phone up to your ear.

Did you know that GPISD has an online scholarship database for local, state, and national scholarships available for all students? The new on-line format provides detailed descriptions of each scholarship and the user can simply click on the scholarship name to link to the scholarship application form. All scholarship applications are listed in the order of due date within the database, and Grand Prairie local scholarship applications are also listed at the bottom of this page in alphabetical order for additional convenience.

Students: To access the Online Scholarship Database, click here. (If you do not have the log-in information, contact your campus counselor. Your campus counselor will provide you with a log-in ID and password.)

Students now have the ability to instantly apply for financial support as they plan for college. To learn more about this new service, please contact your high school counselor or contact Leslie Bender Jutzi, J.D., the District’s Director of Competitive Grants, at 972-237-5466.
