Multicultural/Diversity Services
The Framework for the "Multicultural/Diversity" area of Education Support is grounded in the research that supports the importance and need to create and facilitate "Culturally Responsive Schools and District Practices." The principles of Multiculturalism/Diversity Education also provide the framework within which Multicultural/Diversity education is implemented and recognizes and values the different linguistic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the students in GPISD.
The Executive Director of Innovation and Support Services and team works collaboratively with the Department of Education Operations, particularly the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning and the Social Studies Facilitator to provide support services with the following goals:
- Provide support services that facilitate preparing students to live, learn, interact, work, and participate productively in our multicultural democratic society.
- Promote student achievement through the use of resources and classroom practices that reflects the diversity and commonalities of students, cultural groups, and communities.
- Provide support services for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade curriculum and instruction that enable students to demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the contributions of cultural groups in Grand Prairie, United States, and the world.
- Foster respect for individuals regardless of factors such as language, socio-economic status, race, disability, religion, national origin, and/or gender.
