Title I, Part A -- No Child Left Behind

The purpose of Title I, Part A is to enable schools to provide opportunities for children to acquire the knowledge and skills contained in Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and to meet the standards of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) for students in grades 3-8 and the twelve STAAR End of Course Exams for core subjects (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) in grades 9-11.

Campuses qualify for Title I funding based upon their free or reduced lunch percentage.  In Grand Prairie, 29 schools (one high school,one 9th grade center, four middle schools, and 23 elementary schools) qualify for funding.  The poverty levels of these schools range from 41% to 90%.

Title I, Part A campuses are either designated as targeted-assistance campuses or schoolwide campuses.  All Grand Prairie Title I, Part A Campuses are designated as schoolwide campuses.  Schoolwide campuses are able to use Title I, Part A funds to supplement services, programs and activities that impact the entire school population.  Campus planning and training must include the Ten Schoolwide Components, listed here.

Funds are primarily used to provide supplemental highly-qualified staff, extended learning time for students, additional materials and supplies, staff development for teachers and family involvement activities.
