Graduation

Graduating from high school is a great moment in any young person’s life. However, high school graduation is just a stepping stone to the rest of your life.

Your next step may be a job or it may be more education. Regardless of the route you take to a career, you will need some of the very same skills to be successful.

Ready for College = Ready for Work

Even if going straight to work is the best option for you, keep in mind that the skills needed to succeed in college are also important for career success even for a job that doesn't require a degree.

To be ready, you need to be equally prepared to meet the challenges of college and the demands of today's knowledge-based workforce.

What does it mean to be ready? For the best chance of a making your visions of success a reality, preparing for your future has to start much earlier than graduation day.

GPISD believes that "college and career readiness" begins in elementary school and encompasses a strong academic foundation including all aspects of the GPISD Portrait of a Graduate. Additionally, we have identified some key steps students should take to get ready, setting the stage for future success.

About 40% of Texas high school graduates have to take remedial math, reading, and writing classes when they go to college. Remedial classes help students build their skills in order to prepare them for regular college work.
