Charlie the Caterpillar

Materials: 

"Charlie the Caterpillar" book, poster of the life cycle of the butterfly, paper plates, lima beans, cotton balls, twigs. Literature Connection: "Charlie the Caterpillar"

Activities:

1. Read through "Charlie the Caterpillar".  Discuss how Charlie felt and how his feelings changed.  Have the students brainstorm what they might have done differently if they were Charlie.

2. Have the students create their own paper plate lifecycle of a butterfly’s life.  The students will look at a poster to learn the different stages and then create the paper plate cycle.  For the last part of the cycle, the student will draw and color a symmetrical butterfly.
