Below are ideas for technology integration that support the 4th six weeks grading period in Grade 1. Contact your Technology Facilitator for assistance.

ELA

Unit 04   Relationships with Animals
Lesson 03   Relationships Among Animals
Curriculum activity:   A Venn diagram helps students clearly understand the relationships to compare and contrast similarities and differences among animal characters.
Technology idea:   Microsoft Word - Venn Diagram
Students will use a Venn diagram template created in Microsoft Word to compare and contrast similarities and differences among animal characters. Access the template by clicking here:  Venn Diagram

Curriculum activity:   Poem:  Hoppity, Skippity, Jump
Introduce the sounds of "Y" at the end of the word, /i/ or /e/.  Provide words on word cards as examples of "Y" making each sound.  Make a T-Chart and put examples on each side.  Highlight words from the poem that have "Y" at the end and add to the chart.
Technology idea:   "Y" T-Chart and Electronic Word Cards
Students will use Microsoft Word and Electronic Word Cards to sort "Y" words that have the /i/ or /e/ sound. Directions:  Say each word.  Click on the “green handle” and drag the work to the correct place on the T-Chart.  "Y" T-Chart/Electronic Word Cards Template

Curriculum activity:   Teachers and students will work together to complete a graphic organizer such as the "double-bubble" thinking map or Venn diagram to identify similarities and differences between the characters
Technology idea:   Cinderella Double Bubble Map
Students will use a Double Bubble Map with Kidspiration software to compare and contrast the traditional character of Cinderella with another Cinderella-type character.  See your technology facilitator for more information about assessing this template for use in the computer lab or with wireless lab.

Math

Unit 14   Number Sense/Pattern
Lesson 1   Larger Numbers
Curriculum activity:   Patterns in place value are extended for numbers 41 to 99. Number and word patterns are identified and used to help students understand the value of the numbers and how to read, write, and compare them.
Technology idea:   More Quick Tens
Using edClass activBook e703, students solve problems that are multiples of ten and build their own tens models.

Unit 15   Patterns - Repeating/Additive
Lesson 1   Repeating and Additive Patterns
Curriculum activity:   This unit focuses on identifying, describing, and extending more complex repeating patterns and using the repeating patterns to make predictions and solve problems. This unit will also introduce additive patterns.
Technology idea:   Pattern Chains
Using edClass activBook e699, s tudents create a series (or chain) of blocks. Each block differs from the previous one in an attribute: shape, color or size.

Unit 18   Length
Lesson 01   Measuring Length
Curriculum activity:   Students will measure objects given different sizes of non-standard units. They will explore how different units of measure affect the number of units needed to measure the length of an object.
Technology idea:   Measure Your Hand
Using edClass activBook e697, students use a ruler to measure the length of their hand, recording the measurement on a student template. They then use their hands as a frame of reference, finding objects that have an equal or similar length. Having listed several items, they use a ruler to measure the length of each.

Science

Unit 07   Investigating Functions and Design
Lesson 01   Investigating Function and Design
Curriculum activity:   Identify, draw and label individual parts of a whole system such as a clock, a toy car, or a shoe.
Technology idea:   Parts of a Clock/Shoe/Toy Car
Students will use the drawing tools in Kid Pix to draw a picture of a clock, shoe, or toy car.  Students will use the text box tool to label the parts of their system.

Social Studies
Unit 07   America: Celebrating Who We Are
Lesson 2   Celebrating Historic Americans
Curriculum activity:   Create a visual organizer comparing the lives of historical figures Eleanor Roosevelt and Clara Barton and explain their similarities and  differences.
Technology idea:

Students can use the following Kidspiration template to fulfill this required activity.

Your Instructional Technology Facilitator can direct you to a Kidspiration template for completing this activity.
