Grade 2 - 2nd Six Weeks

Below are ideas for technology integration that support the 2nd six weeks grading period in Grade 2. Contact your Technology Facilitator for assistance.

Unit 02   Talking Patterns
Lesson 01   Musical Patterns in Literature
Curriculum activity:   To allow students to enjoy poetry for its rhymes, rhythms, and visual imagery, and to encourage them to experience poetry as a non-threatening genre.
Technology idea 1   Acrostic Poem
    Students can use this site to create an acrostic poem.
Technology idea 2   I Poem
    Students can use Microsoft Word to create their "I Poem". Children can insert a picture from clip art to illustrate their poem.
     
Math    
     
Unit 03   Comparing/Ordering of Numbers (999)
Lesson 01   Comparing/Ordering of Whole Numbers Through 999
Curriculum activity:   Manipulatives such as base ten blocks represent numbers concretely (through 999).
Technology idea 1   Place Value
    Use the 2nd Grade link then select Place Value or Ordering of Numbers links.
Technology idea 2   Base Ten
    Students can use this website to practice teacher directed problems in the computer lab.
     
Unit 4   2 Digit Addition and Subtraction of Numbers

Technology idea   edClass activBook e352 "Mental Math.
Students use a number grid (Hundred's Chart) to add one and two digit numbers. Learn strategies that make mental arithmetic easier.
     
Technology idea   Use Kidspiration 3 math work space. Use base 10 blocks. There is also a template.

Science Fair   Science Fair Projects
     
Technology idea 1:   Students use "Scientific Method "  Graphic Organzier in Timeliner XE software.  Template is on main page under Sequence Category.
     
Technology idea 2:   Create a Graph in Excel 2007 - Directions
    Students follow these directions to input their data and generate a graph.

Technology idea 3:  

Premade Excel Generic Graph Template
by Eric Carle-North Canton Schools.

.Students type in their titles and data and it automatically builds a graph.

     
Technology idea 4:   Students create a graph of their data from one of the following resources:
    Create a graph online with NCES
Create simple bar, line, area or pie graph.  There is a link at the bottom to take a tutorial on how to create graphs.
     
Technology idea 5:   Using Data Tools- Graph Creator
    Good for creating graphs that contain several trials or groups
     
Technology idea 6:  

Students use Kidspiration 3 "Bar Graph Template"

Unit 04   Patterns of Change in Weather, Season and Natural World
Lesson 01   Patterns of Change: Weather Learning About Clouds
Curriculum activity:   Students will discover that there are observable patterns in our weather, and that weather can be measured and classified. The three elements that comprise weather: precipitation, wind and temperatures will be discussed.
Technology idea 1:   Clouds
    Using edClass activBook e708, students consider what clouds look like today and learn how weather affects our daily lives.

Unit 03   Physical Characteristics of Our Community
Lesson 02   Physical Characteristics
Curriculum activity:   Students read and learn new terminology, learn about physical characteristics of two different places, and create a map of an imaginary place.
Technology idea 1   About My Community
    Using edClass activBook e717, students think about the places they have in their community and then create a page for a book about their community.
Technology idea 2   Build a Community
    Using edClass activBook e590, students use a map, legend, and location clues to build a community.
     
Technoloyg idea 3:   Students use Google Earth to view the world, continents, states and cities. Then they use the "Fly to" feature to fly to Grand Praire. They can turn on layers to view the schools, fire departments, hospitals, etc...  Click here for Directions
