Below are ideas for technology integration that support the 3rd six weeks grading period in Grade 3. Contact your Technology Facilitator for assistance.

Lesson 1   The Most Important Family
Curriculum activity:   Students try to determine the importance of text by using comprehension strategies to infer and summarize and uncover the essential ideas.
Technology idea:   Summarize A
    Using edClass activBook E43, students use a graphic organizer to structure their thinking about a summary.
     
Math    
     
Unit 7   Multiplication/Division
Lesson 1   Multiplication Two Digits by One Digit
Curriculum activity:   Introduce two digits by one digit multiplication through the use of representations and various strategies based on our base ten number system.
Technology idea:  

Multiplication Turn Around

   

In edClass activBook E353, color models show that the two numbers in a multiplication equation are reversible. Students use a grid to solve multiplication problems.

     
Unit 8   Fractions
Lesson 1   Fraction Models
Curriculum activity:   The focus of this lesson is to construct, identify, and compare models of whole objects, or sets of objects using Fraction names, and symbols with denominators of 12 or less.

Lesson 2   Linking Fractions to Money, Length, and Time
Curriculum activity:   This lesson makes the connection between fractions and the fractional parts of money, the fractions of halves and fourths in linear measurement, and the fractional parts of an hour.

Curriculum activity:   Students investigate and describe matter by observing some of its physical properties, such as color, texture, hardness, composition, state, shape, and odor.

Lesson 2   Measuring Like a Scientist: Mass
Curriculum activity:   Students will investigate mass as a property of matter as they collect information about samples of matter by comparing and measuring mass.

Unit 5   Cultural Heritage: Community Celebrations
Lesson 1   Celebrating What We Value
Curriculum activity:   Who are we and what is important to us? Students explore what is important to themselves, their families, school and community by examining holidays and celebrations. On the way, they learn about our celebrations with roots in pride of immigrant groups.
Technology idea 1:   Create and illustrate an Acrostic poem in Word that compares celebrations and addresses the significance of celebrations. Use one fo the words from the lesson as the foundation for the poem.
Technology idea 2:   Create an Acrostic Poem in Read/Write Think interactives.
     
Unit 5   Cultural Heritage: Community Celebrations
Lesson 2   Local Culture and Celebrations
Curriculum activity:   Create a poster advertising a local celebration. Indicate the significance of the celebration as well as activities and other components that are part of
the celebration. Explain how they reflect the local community.
Technology idea:   Students can use MS Publisher to create a document that fulfills this required activity.
     
Unit 5   Cultural Heritage: Community Celebrations
Lesson 3   Contribution of Artists
Curriculum activity:   This lesson studies works of art as a way of finding out about America and the local community as well as a way to convey the “heart” of the place – America and the local community.

Unit 6   Cultural Heritage: People Influence The Community (Good Citizens)
Lesson 1   Good Citizens Influence Their Communities
Curriculum activity:   Create a bio-poem about the good citizenship of one of the people studied. Include an illustration of the person performing an act of good citizenship.
Technology idea:

Lesson 2   Good Citizens Impact Our Local Community
Curriculum activity:   Create a postcard to a friend explaining how local community members work together to improve the community.
Technology idea:   Students can use MS Publisher to create a post card to fulfill this required actifity.
     
Unit 6   Cultural Heritage: People Influence The Community (Good Citizens)
Lesson 3   I Can Make A Difference
Curriculum activity:   Create a work of art that will bring the community’s attention to a local problem. Works of art could include posters, songs, poems, Public Service
Announcements, plays to be performed.
Technology idea 1:   Students can use MS Publisher to create a poster, song, or poem that would fulfill this required activity.
Technology Idea 2:   Students can use MS Power Point to create a presentation of the song, poem or Public Service Announcement.
