Unit 8   Measurement - Elapsed Time, Temperature, Length, Area, Perimeter, Capacity, Weight/Mass, Estimations/Conversions
Lesson 1   Customary Measurement & Time
Curriculum activity:   Students use various measurement tools to find length, weight, capacity and time for customary measures.

Technology idea 1:   Measurment: Compare cm t o inches PowerPoint
    - Students practice measuring objects in centimeters and then compare these measurements to inches. To edit this template click on Edit>Edit slides.

Unit 8   Measurement - Elapsed Time, Temperature, Length, Area, Perimeter, Capacity, Weight/Mass, Estimations/Conversions
Lesson 2   Metric Measurement and Temperature
Curriculum activity:   Students estimate metric measures and use various measurement tools to find the metric measures for length, mass, and capacity. Temperature in degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius is also investigated, and temperature differences are calculated.
Technology idea 1:   Measurement in Everyday Life

Technology idea 2   Measure Perimeter and Convert in Google Earth
Launch Google Earth and follow directions in the handout to measure perimeter and convert measurements.

Unit 8   Measurement - Elapsed Time, Temperature, Length, Area, Perimeter, Capacity, Weight/Mass, Estimations/Conversions
Lesson 3   Area, Perimeter, and Volume
Curriculum activity:   Students use various measurement tools to find length, weight, capacity and time for customary measures.
Technology idea:   Are You a Square?
In edClass activBook E312, students compare the ratio of their height to their arm span to determine if they're a square or a rectangle. Then they'll use the AVERAGE function to find the average shape in their class.

Technology idea 2   See Technology idea 2 in lesson 2.

Technology idea 3:   Design a Cereal Box to Measure Volume
Students use Microsoft Word to create a cereal box.  Using the dimensions they have created, they will calculate the volume of the box. Note: Students do not have to draw the cereal fill line and solve both problems.
