Grade 5 - 2nd Six Weeks

Below are ideas for technology integration that support the 2nd six weeks grading period in Grade 5. Contact your Technology Facilitator for assistance.

Unit 2   The More We Change
Lesson 1   It's a Matter of Perspective
Curriculum activity:  

Create a graphic organizer to analyze multiple sources in order to determine the author’s perspective and distinguish between fact and opinion.

Technology idea:   Inspiration
    Use the Template, Thinking Map: Double Bubble
     
Unit 2   The More We Change
Lesson 2   Job Assignment: Researcher
Curriculum activity:  

Produce an organized, detailed historical timeline from multiple sources that helps to facilitate the interpretation of specific chronological dates and reference materials.

Technology idea 1:   Timeline Constructor
    In edClass activBook e24, an Excel template automatically constructs a timeline structure. Students add events, pictures, pop-up text and sound.
Technology Idea 2:   Build a Timeline
    Using edClass activBook e583, students will enter dates and a timeline framework will be automatically built for them in Excel. Students then add events, pictures, pop-up text and sounds.
     
Technology idea 3:   Students create time line in Timeliner XE software.
     
Math    
     
Unit 4   Relationships - Factors and Primes
Lesson 1   Factors and Primes
Curriculum activity:   Students practice finding the factors of a number using area models, arrays, factors pairs and patterns in factor pairs.
Technology idea:   Factor Trees
    Using edClass activBook e32, students will use a compare/contrast graphic organizer to distinguish how things are the same and/or different.
     
Science    
     
Science Fair   Science Fair Projects
     
Technology idea 1:   Students use "Scientific Method "  Graphic Organzier in Timeliner XE software.  Template is on main page under Sequence Category.
     
Technology idea 2:   Create a Graph in Excel 2007 - Directions
    Students follow these directions to input their data and generate a graph.

Technology idea 3:  

Premade Excel Generic Graph Template
by Eric Carle-North Canton Schools.

.Students type in their titles and data and it automatically builds a graph.

Technology idea 4:   Students create a graph of their data from one of the following resources:
    Create a graph online with NCES
Create simple bar, line, area or pie graph.  There is a link at the bottom to take a tutorial on how to create graphs.
     
Technology idea 5:   Using Data Tools- Graph Creator
    Good for creating graphs that contain several trials or groups
     
Technology idea 6:  

Students use Kidspiration 3 "Bar Graph Template"

Unit 2   Energy
     
Technology idea:   Students use Timeliner Blank Circular Sequence to create the Energy Cycle.
    Sources of Energy Powerpoint to use as a refernce for each source.

Curriculum activity:   Various Handouts
Technology idea:   There are templates of many of the handouts in your 5th grade student folder so students can complete the activities on a computer rather than with paper and pencil.
     
Technology idea 2:   Create a timeline of the Energy Cycle in Timeliner XE. Begin with a blank Sequence Timeline- choose circular.
     
Unit 3   Natural Resources

Curriculum activity:   Various Handouts
Technology idea:   There are templates of many of the handouts in your 5th grade student folder so students can complete the activities on a computer rather than with paper and pencil.

Unit 3   Road to Revolution
Lesson 1   Who Are These People and What Did They Do?
Curriculum activity:   Students will research leaders of the Revolutionary period.
Technology idea:   Connected Tech: An American Leader's Résumé
   

Students research the life and accomplishments of an American leader and then use word processing software to write a résumé for that leader.

     
Unit 3   Road to Revolution
Lesson 1   Who Are These People and What Did They Do?
Curriculum activity:   Create a matrix about historical figures during the Revolutionary War period.
Technology idea:   Click here for a Word template that can be used to complete this activity using the computers.

Lesson 2   The British are Coming!
Curriculum activity:   Create an illustrated timeline of the economic and political issues and events that led to the American Revolution.

    Using edClass activBook e151, students will plan, write and publish a newspaper report about an event or issue of interest. Learn about report structure and to use an appropriate writing style.
Technology Idea 2:   In the News, A Historical Look
    Using edClass activBook e628, students will plan, write and publish a newspaper based on an event or a time period in history.
     
Unit 4   The Revolution that Changed the World
Lesson 1   A Statement of Freedom
     
Technology Idea   Library of Congress Interactive Activity: Rewriting the Rough Draft.  Students study the rough draft of the Declaration, analyze the word choices that Jefferson made, and discuss the impact of those choices.
