Kindergarten - 1st Six Weeks

Below are ideas for technology integration that support the 1st six weeks in Kindergarten. Contact your Technology Facilitator for assistance.

Unit 01   Beginning School
Lesson 01   First Days of School
Curriculum activity:   Through the use of language, students begin to identify, label and describe their new environment and discover the language learning processes that will support life-long learning.
Technology idea:   New Environment - The Computer Lab
    Students will use Kidspiration to learn about one new environment, the computer lab.  What are some items that you see in the computer lab? How are these items used? Delete the items that are not in the computer lab? Do you see items that are in both the computer lab and in the classroom?  The template for this activity is located in your grade level folder. Lesson 01   First Days of School
Curriculum activity:   T Chart - Explore, Explain, Elaborate - pg. 4.  There are many people in the school that help students.
Technology idea:   School People T Chart in Kidspiration
    Students will use Kidspiration to learn about people in school.  Students will complete the TChart. Use the pictures from the picture bank to show what principals, teachers, and students do.The template for this activity is located in your grade level folder. Contact your technology facilitator for more information.
     
Lesson 02   Beginning to Read
Curriculum activity:   Work with small groups of children to talk with them about their names and the letters that are in their names.  Engage, pg. 6
Technology idea:   Paint Your Name
   

Find the letters in your name.  Paint the letters in your name green.  First click on “green” in the color palette.  Second, click on the “paint bucket”.   Then, click on the letters in your name. Optional:  After students have painted the letters, have the students cut out the letters and form their name at the bottom of the page.  To cut out the letters:  first, click on the “select icon” and draw a rectangle around the letter.  Second, click and drag the letter to the bottom of the page.  There are two templates for this activity is located in your grade level folder.  One template has lower case letters and the other has upper case.  Note:  When opening a document in Microsoft Paint, you must first open the program.  Go to File >> Open >> and then navigate to the document.  Contact your technology facilitator for more information.

     
Unit 01   Beginning School
Lesson 03   Learning About Letters and Words
Curriculum activity:   Write your name using the letters of the alphabet.
Technology idea:   Writing Your Name on the Computer
    Students will use Microsoft Paint to practice writing their name. Directions: Go to Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>Paint. Click on the pencil. Use the mouse to practice writing your name.  Students will write their names three times.

Curriculum activity:   Recite the days of the week and identify where the labels of each day are located on a calendar.
Technology idea:   Label the Calendar
    Students will label a calendar with the days of the week in Microsoft Word. Label the Calendar Template
Unit 01   Counting Through 5
Lesson 01   One-to-One Correspondence
Curriculum activity:   This lesson begins the developmental approach of counting quantities 1-5.
Technology idea:   Students will use Kidspiration to practice counting 1 through 5.  The template for this activity is located in your grade level folder. Contact your technology facilitator for more information.

Unit 01   How I Grow and Change
Lesson 01   How I Grow and Change
Curriculum activity:   Students create a ME book that includes pictures and current student information.
Technology idea:   Students will create a ME book by using Kid Pix under the puplished tab there is a section on "All About Me" students will be able to color the pictures and then print or publish a slideshow.
     
Social Studies
     
Unit 01   Classroom Routines
Lesson 01   Basic Needs
Curriculum activity:   This lesson is an introduction to the three basic needs of food, shelter and clothing. This lesson will also focus on the need for love, affection and belonging.
Technology idea:   Food, Clothing, Shelter and Love Kidspiration Template
   

Students will use Kidspiration to demonstrate an understanding of basic human needs.  Students will use a ready-made Kidspiration Template - Food, Clothing, Shelter and Love.  Contact your technology facilitator for more information.  Students will navigate through the symbol palette and find pictures of things they need and drag those pictures to the correct category.

Lesson 02   Belonging
Curriculum activity:   In addition to food, clothing, and shelter, people need to belong. This is one of the beginning steps toward understanding the social studies concept of community
Technology idea:   Students will use Kidspiration to demonstrate an understanding of basic human needs.  Students will use a ready-made Kidspiration Template - Basic Human Needs Buble Map.  Contact your technology facilitator for more information.  Students will navigate through the symbol palette and find pictures of basic human needs and add them to the bubble map.
     
Unit 02   People and Places in the School Community
Lesson 03   School Workers Who Meet Our Basic Needs
Curriculum activity:   Students learn more about basic needs and begin to differentiate between a want and a need. Building on the previous lesson, students begin to categorize school jobs according to the needs they help fulfill.
Technology idea:   Students will use Kidspiration to complete a T-Chart about School Workers. Students will use a ready-made Kidspiration Template - School Workers T-Chart.  Contact your technology facilitator for more information.  Students will Work with a partner. Discuss each worker and review their job responsibilities, decide which basic need that worker provides. Drag the basic need symbol (food, clothing, shelter, love),  next to the job title. Some school workers may provide multiple needs to the students.
