These are the words that have described John Nance Garner Elementary’s focus from the day the doors opened in 1987 to serve the new and growing Trailwood and Westchester subdivisions in far south Grand Prairie. Along with expansive retail development of the area south of Interstate 20 came growth and change for these neighborhoods.
From a beginning of around 300 students to an increase to over 950 students, Garner has focused on growing and changing while meeting the diverse needs of a changing community. In 2011, Garner was faced with closing, and needed a new plan to serve our community. In this, the Fine Arts Academy was born, with a grand opening in the Fall of 2011. Garner Fine Arts Academy currently serves approximately 950 students from all over the DFW metroplex, and strives to be the destination school for elementary fine arts in the area.
