Truman Middle School opened its doors in November of 1980 with about 400 students. Truman’s unique design was a major change from the traditional junior high school building. It featured a two story square building where all the classrooms surrounded the administrative offices on the first floor and the library on the second floor. A cafetorium (cafeteria/auditorium) was connected to the building along with two fine arts classrooms, competition gym and auxiliary gym. Five classrooms and three science labs were added on the east side of the building in 1987. Another eight classrooms, band hall, and learning resource center (library) were added in 1993. In addition, the library on the second floor was converted to a computer technology lab. 2008 marked the addition of four new science rooms.
