Food Services                                    

Grand Prairie ISD currently partners with Southwest Foodservice Excellence, LLC (SFE) to provide a variety of nutritious meals to all enrolled students. Our menus are based on traditional (also called component) meal planning guidelines. In order to comply with USDA's National School Lunch Program regulations (click here for more information), all school meals include items from certain major food groups: meats/meat alternates, breads/grains, fruits/vegetables/100% juices, and fluid milk. In addition, SFE offers whole-grain and reduced-sugar items and focuses on providing the most healthful options within our customized breakfast, lunch, and snack menus.

We serve approximately 19,000 lunches and 9,000 breakfasts each day throughout our District at 38 campuses. Approximately 72% of our students are eligible to participate in free or reduced meal programs. Our food service department staff is comprised of 270 employees and office staff, along with a supervisory support team including Assistant Directors, Executive Chef, Registered Dietitian, as well as our Director of Dining Services, Jeffery Ackerman.

At all education levels SFE offers several hot entrée selections and side dishes daily from our Culinary Concepts including Luigi’s, Red Dragon, Ballpark, Traditional, Adobe Grill, Gourmet Greens, and the Delicatessen. Students who receive a school meal are also welcome to help themselves to our rotating salad bar selections each day at no additional cost.

In addition to providing meals to the students who attend our schools, SFE is dedicated to nutrition education – in both the classroom and the kitchen. You can find our students participating in monthly promotions and programs such as Roving Chef, where nutrition education meets hands-on culinary training!

Finally, our catering department, headed by our executive chef, is available for events of all sizes and budgets. From continental breakfast meeting fare to customized dinner parties, SFE will exceed your culinary expectations with our superior quality and customer service. Remember, all catering income is returned to District funds in order to support our schools; for kitchen improvement; and for providing nutrition education programs.
