Special Education

Vision

All Jackson Middle School students with disabilities will be involved and will progress in the general curriculum successfully and appropriately as a result of teachers, parents, and administrative staff effectively implementing modifications, adaptations, and/or accommodations.

WE BELIEVE...

Special Education should meet the individual needs of each student and that it should…

  • Be based on assessment results
  • Consider…
     - Learning rate
     - Learning style
     - Cultural/Ethnic/Linguistic Differences
  • Be outcome-oriented
  • Be linked to the strategies and curriculum of the general education classroom
  • Be monitored regularly and modified when necessary
  • Create a level playing field for ALL students

Basic Classes

Basic classes provide academic instruction in English, reading, and mathematics. These classes are available to students whose test results indicate that they are performing below grade level and are in need of an individualized program of instruction in one or more skill areas. The amount of time and courses scheduled depends upon individual needs.

Speech Therapy

Speech language therapy is available for eligible students who exhibit difficulties in expressive and/or receptive language. Students are taught communication skills by speech language pathologists who are trained to identify and minimize oral language problems.
