Mission Statement

Our mission is to create a learning environment that promotes high academic achievement, capitalizes on student career interests and aptitudes, and encourages student involvement in order to produce responsible and successful citizens.

 

Center for Sports Health Science at SGPHS 9th Grade Center
  • All students will be accepted by application
  • Emphasis of the program is in Sports Medicine
  • Opportunities for certification upon graduation will be provided

The Center for Sports Health Science is a Preferred Program of Choice potentially leading to certifications, college credit and internships.

About Our School
South Grand Prairie 9th Grade Center is a campus exclusive to 9th grade students.  As part of South Grand Prairie High School with an enrollment of over 800, our students have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as fine arts and athletic classes at the 10-12 campus.
 
  • Project Based Learning
  • Handprints on Hearts Mentoring Program
  • Capturing Kids' hearts
  • Teen Leadership required for all 9th graders for Professional Communication credit unless the student has already received credit.  This program builds personal responsibility and leadership skills through role plays, group activities, speeches, and projects.
  • Online credit recovery
  • Comprehensive guidance program including individual sessions, group counseling, and guidance lessons
  • AVID College Readiness Program
  • Individualized learning, including Special Education services as well as Pre-AP and Gifted & Talented courses
  • Variety of electives such as Web Technology and JROTC
  • SWAT Advisory held at least once per 9 weeks to discuss graduation planning as well as personal/social skills
  • Clubs/Activities including Student Council, Rachel's Challenge, Anime, and Chess Club
  • Athletics program consisting of 9th grade, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams
  • Achieve 3000 program for students struggling with reading
  • Project Navigator program for students struggling with math
  • Character Counts
  • Fine Arts program including: band, choir, orchestra, mariachi, ballet folklorico, dance, theatre, and visual arts
