Social/Emotional Support

  • Welcome back, Tigers!

This week is Suicide Prevention Week. We will talk about several ways to deal with stress and how to help one another.

Today is Mindful Monday.  Mindfulness is being aware of the present moment.  Try this simple plan if you are feeling overwhelmed.  Look around the room and see if you can find 5 things that start with the same letter as your first name. Then, bring your mind back to your learning environment.

    Tuesday

The behaviors listed below may be some of the signs that someone is thinking about suicide.

    • Talking- about wanting to die, guilt or shame, and being a burden to others.
    • Feeling- Empty, hopeless, trapped, or having no reason to live, extremely sad, more anxious, agitated, or full of rage, and unbearable emotional or physical pain.
    • Changing behavior- Making a plan or researching ways to die, Withdrawing from friends, saying goodbye, giving away important items, or making a will. Taking dangerous risks such as driving extremely fast, displaying extreme mood swings, eating or sleeping more or less, and using drugs or alcohol more often.

If these warning signs apply to you or someone you know, get help as soon as possible, especially if the behavior is new or has increased recently.

  • Middle school is an exciting time in an adolescent’s life and the counselors at Arnold Middle School are here to help students succeed in school and life, and gain greater understanding of themselves and others. We strive to help students learn and practice vital life skills that will help them make positive choices, overcome adversity, and learn how to build positive relationships.

The counseling office at the middle school level serves students in a variety of ways, including scheduling, special programs, and assistance with personal concerns. The counseling office also has information available about community resources to address personal concerns.

We hope any student who needs extra assistance will come and visit a counselor. We look forward to working with you.
