Counseling Overview
We are excited to begin the new school -year. We look forward to collaborating with our students, families, and staff at Adams Middle School. Students and/or their families may be referred by a staff member, community member, or by self-referral. GPISD Counseling mission is assisting students with removing social emotional barriers that are impeding student achievement, implementing a comprehensive Counseling Program that focuses on Career Exploration and College Readiness from Pre-K to 12th grade (From the Cradle to Career) and effectively communicating the GPISD Counseling Department Mission to all stakeholders.
We welcome families to contact us for assistance with your students' developmental, personal/social, career planning and/or academic needs. Most importantly, every counselor in our school district seeks to provide a comprehensive school counseling program. There are four areas of this counseling program:
Guidance Curriculum: Providing a comprehensive guidance program to all students. We visit classes to provide lessons on a number of different topics, including: bullying, harassment, teen dating violence, suicide prevention, goal setting, drug/alcohol awareness, anti-victimization just to name a few topics.
Responsive Services: Meeting the immediate needs of students and their families is very important. This may include grief counseling, dealing with relationship/family issues, or stress management. At times referrals to outside agencies is needed to provide assistance with shelter, clothing, food, and other needs.
Individual Planning: Assisting students in their ability to monitor, understand, and control their own behavior, skills, and development. We work with students on goal setting, social skills acquisition, college/career awareness, and personal relationships.
System Support: Supporting parents, teachers, staff, and others. This better helps our students through parent education, teacher/administrator consultation, working with district personnel and community members.
