On March 24th, 2021 South Grand Prairie High School will administer two tests, the SAT® School Day without Essay, and the ASVAB with CPR Training.

What are these exams and why should I take it?

    • The SAT® School Day without the Essay is standardized tests offered by the College Board that is accepted by all US colleges and universities and is typically required as part of the application process. The purpose of the SAT® is to measure a high school student's readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. The combined scores for the SAT® range from 400 to 1600 and are broken down into 2 parts; Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.  Each of these sections offers scores that range from 200 to 800.
      • Here are some important links for the SAT.
        • College Board – This will take you to the College Board’s SAT Home page where you can find a myriad of resources.
        • The Khan Academy – The College Board has partnered with the Khan Academy to offer free and personalized study resources for the SAT®.
        • Practice Tests – This will take you to College Board Practice Test site where you can access an online practice test and 10 separate practice tests with answer sheets and explanations.
        • SAT® School Day Student Guide
    • The ASVAB also known as the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is a career aptitude test.  We use the ASVAB in conjunction with the ASVAB Career Exploration Program to help students identify possible civilian and military career opportunities after graduation. The ASVAB is good for up to 2 years and does not obligate students to military service.  Through the use of the Career Exploration Programs students will have a chance to explore all paths to careers and college, certifications, apprenticeships, licensure programs, and the Military in one place. Students that are looking to join the military after graduation can use their scores from this exam to lock in their Military Occupational Specialty when they enlist.

Who should take each exam and how much does it cost?

    • There is no cost for either of these exams and tests have been ordered for ALL JUNIORS and ALL SENIORS that are still needing to test (Seniors that tested in October and/or January are not required to attend).

Where and when do I take the exam?

    • Both tests will be offered on Wednesday, March 24th at South Grand Prairie High School.  Unfortunately, the tests are not offered online at this time. Students should arrive by 7:25 AM and be in their rooms and ready to test no later than 7:35 AM.
      • The SAT® will be given in the Main Building.  Students will check-in in the lobby and be sent to their rooms once they arrive.
      • The ASVAB and CPR Training will be given in the Dr. Alexander Building.  Students will check-in in front of the main office.
    • Because the exam is ONLY offered in person and the vast majority of our students attend virtually we are asking students and parents to complete the registration form so that we can better facilitate a safe and secure testing environment. Students will be placed in rooms with a maximum of 10 to 15 students and will be required to maintain proper social distancing and will follow all district COVID protocols at all times.

    • Students that have selected to have the Virtual Learning experience will arrive on campus by 7:15 AM. These testers will be released to leave campus once begin to wrap up testing.  More information regarding anticipated release times will be made available as we draw closer to the testing date and have a better idea on the number of testers.
    • We are looking at possibly providing transportation for virtual learns to and from the school.  Please make sure that you complete the registration link above to ensure we have the most accurate information on the needs of our students that will be testing that day. Please complete these questions based on your individual needs. This will help us in coordinating logistics and ensuring that students have a positive and stress free testing environment.
