Department Overview
Drug prevention and intervention takes time, commitment, and consistent support to experience a full recovery. Our goal, as your GPISD substance abuse counselors, is to offer our support through engaging parent workshops, ongoing campus initiatives, and connecting families in need of recovery services with the appropriate resources. Student achievement is our goal and priority. We look forward to partnering with you as we promote drug-free living.
Our Mission
We strive to educate and elevate students toward achieving optimal health apart from illegal substance use. Our program initiatives and activities will equip students to make wise choices concerning their biochemical, mental, and physical wellness while exposing them to endless opportunities afforded only through living a drug-free lifestyle.
Our Services
We are committed to creating a climate of trust for students and families in need of alcohol and substance use recovery. We provide individual counseling for students at Johnson DAEP as in-school support and conduct frequent prevention check-ins to monitor student progress upon returning to their home campus after their duration at DAEP.
In addition to our direct services to students, we:
- Provide ongoing, developmentally appropriate initiatives for all students to promote drug freedom.
- Collaborate with community agencies and other stakeholders to connect students with appropriate resources.
- Participate in community events to promote our intervention & prevention efforts.
- Conduct parent workshops
- Provide staff training
