Inclusion

  • Inclusion is a district wide initiative where special education students first receive their instruction through the general education classroom with support provided by a special education teacher based on their individual needs. Research has shown that students who are educated in an inclusive environment typically have higher test results due to higher standards being set for students and the exposure to the entire scope and sequence of the curriculum. The support received by a student would typically fall into three areas: external support with the collaboration between general and special education teachers benefiting the student; in-class support including support facilitation and co-teaching where two professionals work together in the delivery of instruction for either part or the entire week; and specialized support where students require support to address one or more learner objectives in a setting other than the general education classroom for a period of the school day.
