Veterinary Studies (9-12)

  • girl with dog The veterinary studies program provides students with a strong academic foundation in veterinary studies, preparing students to sit for the Certified Veterinary Assistant Exam, offered through the Texas Veterinary Medicine Association their senior year.  Students will be well prepared to enter the workforce as a CVA and/or continue their post-secondary education to work towards becoming a veterinary technician or veterinarian.

    Advanced course work includes study in clinical and laboratory practice, as well as internship completion requirements.  Special opportunities include job shadowing, conferences by guest speakers and special event attendance, all of which enhance the student's experience in the program and provide information about the field of study.

    On-Site Internship Warrior Paws Grooming Clinic: Students get hands on experience with live animals- performing Physical Exams, giving baths, nail trims, light grooming, basic training, as well as pet day care.

    Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in FFA, a career and technical student organization, dedicated to the advancement of agricultural studies.

    Veterinary Studies is offered as a Program of Choice at South Grand Prairie High School.
