What do I do if I get injured at work?
ALL on-the-job injuries/illnesses must be reported to your designated supervisor immediately, even if you don’t think you will need medical treatment. You and your Supervisor must see the campus secretary, department secretary, or your building’s designated Workers’ Comp officer to fill out a First Report of Injury.
If you lose ANY time from work due to your on-the-job injury/illness you must notify Barry Hosford immediately via email or (972)237-5392.
Seeking Treatment Under Workers' Compensation
For emergencies, you may go to the nearest emergency room. Otherwise, you must choose a treating doctor who is a part of the GPISD 504 Workers' Compensation Medical Care Program. What do Supervisors report?
The employee’s Supervisor or anyone in Management (ie Administration, Principal, Assistant Principal, Nurse, Secretary or Supervisor) with any knowledge of an employee’s injury or illness due to work must ensure a First Report of Injury is filed, regardless of severity of the incident or whether employee wishes to pursue WC Benefits.
All on the job incidents, especially those that require medical attention or result in lost time, are to be immediately reported to the employee’s supervisor and to Barry Hosford via email or (972)237-5392.
If an employee collapses while at work, please notify Barry Hosford immediately.
An “Employee First Report of Injury/Illness” form is to be completed by the supervisor with the employee’s factual account of the incident.
Early Return to Work Program (Modified Duty)
The Grand Prairie Independent School District is committed to providing a safe workplace for all employees. Preventing work related injuries is our primary goal.
The District’s philosophy in offering modified duty for employees injured on the job is two-fold. First, the District recognizes the valuable contribution that every employee makes to the educational experience of our students, and second, that employees heal more quickly when they can return to work whenever possible, and be among their peers. The District believes that an early return to work program is part of the “therapy” of healing from an injury.
Our early return to work program provides an opportunity for an employee who is injured on the job to return to work as they progress through their recovery process towards being able to return back to full work duty. The District will make every reasonable effort to provide suitable modified duties. This may include modified portions of an injured employee’s regular job or, if available, providing temporary alternative work depending on the employee’s physical abilities. All modified work will be for a limited time depending on the treating physician’s estimate of progress toward returning an employee back to full duty. This process will be monitored by the Workers' Compensation Specialist.
Only work that is considered productive and meaningful to the business shall be utilized in an early return to work program. Injured employees who are participating in modified duty are expected to provide physician feedback to the Workers' Compensation Specialist indicating their degree of progress toward a full duty release without any restrictions. Any permanent restrictions will be dealt with accordingly.
