Teacher Grant Testimonials

  • “Making Pins and Needles Into Promising Portfolios” grant award

A huge thank you to the Education Foundation!  Our project, "Making Pins and Needles into Portfolios" was a tremendous success.  Below you can see examples of student achievement resulting directly from the grant.  Students learned hands-on sewing, costuming and makeup techniques resulting in a complete presentation-ready portfolio.  Many of these students are sophomores and will continue to add to these portfolios throughout high school.  These portfolios are the best way to showcase the student designer's high school work.  We are excited and ready to raise the rigor for these students that never imagined they would have accomplished so much in a single year.  (Pictured below: Muppet-inspired puppet project and student-work portfolio)

GPISD Education Foundation Innovative Teaching Grant lets SGPHS students visit with e-pals half a world away in Ikostola Lauaxeta Spain

With the funds received from the GPISD Education Foundation we purchased two computers for the classroom.  They help many students who do not have Internet access at home. Students are able to come at lunch or after school and do online work on Edmodo or our Spanish Supersite. I am attaching some photos of students involved with the e-pals sister class project with Ikastola Lauaxeta in Spain. They are using the computers in one photo and are shown in another with gifts they were sent by their e-pals. -Genie V Smith
