Mrs. Schavonda Burton-Johnson
Schavonda Burton-Johnson is the Digital Arts & Technology Academy at Adams Middle School counselor, serving students with last names beginning with “A-K”.
Ms. Johnson has a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Students from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Masters of Education in School Counseling from Dallas Baptist University.
Before becoming a Panther, Ms. Johnson served as the school counselor at GPISD’s LBJ Elementary School for three years. Prior to working in Grand Prairie, she served as a teacher for nine years in Dallas ISD.
Mrs. Johnson says she utilizes the solution-focused approach when working with students. This strategy, she says, allows them to focus on goal setting and making positive decisions for the future. She also strives to provide a comprehensive guidance program to each and every one of the students that she serves. Because of her success in her approach with students, Ms. Johnson was a member of the first counseling team in GPISD to earn the CREST Award for Texas Counselors.
When she’s am not serving the students at Adams, Ms. Johnson looks forward to spending time with her husband and sons. She also enjoys event planning, floral design and attending sporting events.

Ms. Monica Hernandez
Monica Hernandez is the Digital Arts & Technology Academy at Adams Middle School Counselor for students with last names beginning with letters “L-Z”. Ms. Hernandez is excited to be a part of the Panther family.
Ms. Hernandez is a product of Grand Prairie ISD, graduating from Grand Prairie High School in 2002. She was a former Adams Middle School student, and she is thrilled to now be working on the same campus.
A graduate of Southern Methodist University, Ms. Hernandez has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Financial Consulting. She continued her education at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where she received a Master of Education in School Counseling. Before becoming a school counselor, Ms. Hernandez taught Math and Science in the secondary level for seven years.
“My mission is to provide a comprehensive developmental school counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. As a leader, advocate, and collaborator in the school community, I will provide and facilitate appropriate services to meet the needs of all of our Panthers, so they may reach their fullest potential!”
