Grand Prairie ISD is proud to announce a new program within the Kaleidoscope: Schools & Programs of Choice – Registered Nursing Academy at the Grand Prairie Early College High School. Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, GP Early College High School will provide students with the opportunity to attend college and receive their RN while earning a high school diploma. The program is backed by a $400,000 Next Generation Early College High School Grant from the Texas Education Agency and is based on the ECHS blueprint. 

This program will be geared toward students who have the drive to excel and the desire to study for Pre-AP, AP, and college courses. However, students do not have to be a Pre-AP student or have a certain GPA to be accepted. 

Statistics show that by the year 2021, the healthcare profession will account for 30% of the jobs in the North Texas area. By having an associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing, students can pursue other careers, if they choose, such as nurse practitioner, anesthesiologist, and management.

Students enrolled in the program will have visits to Mountain View College, where they’ll have access to the facilities, resources, and activities the campus has to offer, and opportunities to explore the medical profession. Grand Prairie ISD covers the financial responsibilities for the program, all fees and textbooks. GP ECHS students will have support through dedicated staff in a personalized academic setting. They’ll also have clinical experience with Baylor Scott & White at a GPISD facility.

GP ECHS Nursing students, after meeting all requirements, will have the opportunity to transition into the BSN program at the University of Texas at Arlington, ahead of the game.  Once students have successfully completed the program, the goal is for them to sit for the NCLEX or the RN Exam.

GPISD hopes this is another opportunity for students who graduate to be ready to join the workforce or seek advanced degrees. GPISD prides itself on not only changing the lives of children, but also changing families and communities for the better.
