Welcome to Second Grade!

Our goal this year is to help our students become life-long learners. We have high expectations for our students so they can work at their highest potential. In second grade, we foster an atmosphere of respect and student lead classrooms to build great leaders for our future.

Highlights of Academics

During the year we will learn to increase our reading levels and become fluent readers with comprehension of what we are reading. Students will be problem solvers daily in math while learning math strategies to support their thinking. Second grade is a year of becoming more independent thinkers and learners. This will allow the students to skills they need to be successful each year in school.

Communication

Communication is key to helping our students be successful throughout the school year. Each second grader will come home with an agenda to communicate what is happening at school. Homework, important dates, and notes will be written in their agendas. Please check agendas each day! It is a great way for the parents and teachers to communicate what is going daily. We are always available through email or phone as well.p 

Homework

Students will have homework for the week. On Mondays, students will receive their homework for the week. They have all week to complete the assignments and turn them on Fridays. Homework includes reading passages, math problems and words for the week with a skill to work on.
