Social and Emotional Learning Lessons
-
Hello parents and welcome to this social emotional support page. This page was created for parents like you who are interested in helping your students at home. Below you will find age appropriate lessons that you can do with your students at your own pace. These lessons provide information on how to help your student focus, manage their feelings and emotions, and how you can support your student through stressful situations. All you have to do is click on the grade level and pick any of the self-paced lessons.
The counseling services department offers this an as opportunity to support you and your student at a time that is convenient for you and your family. If you have any questions please feel free to contact your school counselor, social worker, or the Director of Social-Emotional Learning, Dr. Blanca McGee at blanca.mcgee@gpisd.org.

Senate Bill 9
- Senate Bill 9 (SB 9) requires public schools to provide instruction to students relating to the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking. SB 9 also requires public schools to obtain parent/guardian consent for students to receive this instruction.
- Guidance from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and approval by the GPISD School Board is required for the curriculum that will be used to teach each of these topics.
- Before a student may be provided with instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking, SB 9 requires that Grand Prairie ISD obtain written consent from the student’s parent/guardian. Without written consent from a parent/guardian, students will not receive instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence, or sex trafficking.
- Please note: not all topics are covered at every grade level.
- Parents/guardians have the right to preview the curricula at any time and may request to review curriculum materials in advance of instruction by contacting the school counselor or student support staff at each campus.
