Who
The new Mac laptop is for staff such as Teachers, Counselors, Diagnosticians, Principals, Assistant Principals, Deans, iCoaches, Speech Pathologists, Dyslexia Teachers

What
It is time to refresh the 11” MacBook Air devices. For each of the groups mentioned above, these 13” devices will replace the 11” MacBook Air laptop.

Why
The current devices are in their 5th year of use. The new MacBook Air features the M1 chip, USB-C ports and a larger hard drive with larger display screen. This laptop only has the Mac operating system. If users need the Windows operating system, please keep your current device.

How
Your technology team will work with campus administrators to deploy devices with the help of Technicians and the IMS/IMA department. This Refresh Guide is intended to help ensure processes and procedures are communicated clearly for a smooth transition

When
New devices will roll out beginning January 2022. Specific campus dates will be shared directly with campus administration at a later time.
Everyone who is eligible to receive the device MUST have their files already backed up. OneDrive is the preferred back up location but you can continue to use the method you have been using to back up such as iCloud, Google, flash drive or external hard drive.

Device Exchange Checklist For Campus Deployment
Purpose
This article shares best practices for returning the old device and receiving the new MacBook Air.
Refresh Process for Teachers
- At the designated time, teachers will come to the designated location with their laptop, charger and adapter.
- Please have the device powered up to verify that you are logged out of your iCloud account, the trackpad works, the screen works and files are backed up. You can use an external hard drive or flash drive or the steps to back up to One Drive on the following pages. You must backup your files.
If any physical damage is discovered, or if something is missing, the teacher will be instructed to make an appointment with the Help Desk to return their device and be issued their new one at a later date.
- Device should power up
- Log out of Apple ID
- Screen has no cracks and hinged lid works
- Trackpad works
- No more than 2 keys are missing from the keyboard
- Charger and adapter are turned in with laptop
After the exchange:
- Teachers log in to new device and make sure they are on wifi.
- Assistance will be given for adding the printer.
- Teachers return to their classroom to download and install apps from Self Service.
- Teachers restore files from a drive or cloud service.
