PBIS

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive, research-based framework that helps schools create positive, predictable, and safe environments where all students can succeed. PBIS focuses on teaching and reinforcing expected behaviors, using data to guide decisions, and providing consistent support for students at every level.

Why PBIS in GPISD?

In Grand Prairie ISD, PBIS is more than a behavior system—it’s a commitment to building a district where every student feels connected, supported, and celebrated. Aligned with our mission of equity and excellence for all, PBIS promotes a safe and welcoming environment, reduces disciplinary disparities, and fosters strong relationships. By embedding the 3 Cs—Connect, Community, and Celebrate—into our PBIS practices, we ensure that every student has the tools and support needed to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

District-Wide Implementation Overview

Year 2 Focus: Fidelity, Engagement, and Data Use

As GPISD enters Year 2 of PBIS implementation, our focus is on:

  • Fidelity: Ensuring each campus fully implements Tier 1 systems with consistency and quality
  • Engagement: Deepening student and staff ownership of PBIS through customized, culturally relevant systems
  • Data Use: Using data to guide decisions, monitor progress, and inform interventions

Campuses follow structured implementation phases to build strong, sustainable PBIS systems.

Annual Goals & SMART Targets: By May 2026, GPISD aims to:

  • Increase PBIS implementation effectiveness across all campuses, measured by a 2-point increase in Panorama survey results from BOY to EOY
  • Decrease overall student discipline incidents
  •  Improve student and staff perceptions of school climate and belonging
  • Expand Tier 1 fidelity and reduce behavior recidivism through proactive supports 3 Cs Integration: Connect, Community, Celebrate

PBIS in GPISD is rooted in our district-wide culture initiative, the 3 Cs:

  • Connect: Adults build meaningful relationships through daily Connecting Questions and intentional check-ins
  • Community: Students co-create Community Agreements to guide shared expectations
  • Celebrate: Positive behavior is recognized through House Points, Shout-Outs, PBIS rallies, and other student-led celebrations

Together, these elements create inclusive environments where students feel seen, valued, and motivated to succeed.

PBIS in Action

Across GPISD, schools are creating engaging and joyful PBIS experiences, including:

  • House Systems that foster friendly competition and team identity
  • Token Economies to reward positive behavior with real-world skills like saving, budgeting, and goal-setting
  • Rallies, Recognition Events, and Shout-Outs that build school pride and celebrate success
