National Drug Awareness Initiatives

Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually from October 23-31 in the United States. It began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985.

Escape the Vape Week, recognized during the 3rd week of March, is the GPISD twist on Kick Butts Day. Kick Butts Day is a day for the nation’s youth to speak out about the problems associated with tobacco use. With the rapid increase of alternative smoking methods, we decided to extend the day to a week of content related to the dangers of tobacco, e-cigs, and vaping.

National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week, recognized in March, is dedicated to connecting teens to scientific facts that debunk myths and misconceptions about drugs and alcohol. During this week, scientific experts present SHATTER THE MYTHS® to educated student on the truth about substance use and addiction.
