Latavia Rivers

Welcome! Hello Austin parents!  My name is Latavia Rivers, and I am the school counselor of Austin Elementary!  The school counselor is a trained professional who works as part of your child's team. I work in partnership with students, teachers, parents, and the community to help your child have a successful and  positive school experience. I understand that each child is unique; some need someone to listen to their concerns, whereas others may need support in developing problem solving and decision-making skills. Whatever the concern, I am here to listen to your child and to help them feel safe and comfortable.

I have been in education since 2007. This school year marks my 10th year!  I began my career as a high school English teacher.  I have served as a school counselor on the middle and elementary level- this year marks my 5th year in school counseling.  My experience in education has been extremely rewarding; I enjoy the surprises that each day has to offer!  Instilling joy and soft skills within children are my favorite part about being a school counselor!

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary English Education from Jarvis Christian College.  In addition, I possess a Master of Science degree in School Counseling, and school counseling licensure, from Texas Wesleyan University.  I am a licensed to teach English, Language Arts, and Reading 8-12, and I am ESL certified.  I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a lifetime member of the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, shopping, traveling, DIY home improvement, fine arts, and reading.
