Kimberly Belcher

My name is Kim Belcher and I am excited to be the school counselor at Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary. This is my twentieth year in education and fifteenth year as a school counselor. I am ready for another adventurous and exhilarating school year. I have a number of different roles at the school. I work with families that may need additional support. I provide parent workshops, small group sessions, and individual counseling.

As school counselor, my objective is to help students succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. In order to achieve that goal, I work with parents, teachers, staff, community members, and district personnel. Students and/or their families may be referred by a staff member, community member, or by self- referral. Most importantly, every counselor in our school district seeks to provide a comprehensive school counseling program. There are four areas of this counseling program.

Guidance Curriculum: Providing a comprehensive guidance program to all students. I visit each class about six times a year to provide lessons on a number of different topics, including: bullying, harassment, safety, friendship, goal setting, diversity, drug/alcohol awareness, anti-victimization with the WHO program just to name a few topics.

Responsive Services: Meeting the immediate needs of students and their families is very important. This may include grief counseling, dealing with relationship/family issues, or stress management. At times, referrals to outside agencies is needed to provide assistance with shelter, clothing, food, and other needs.

Individual Counseling: Assisting students in their ability to monitor, understand, and control their own behavior, skills, and development. I work with students on goal setting, social skills acquisition, college/career awareness, and personal relationships.

System Support: Supporting parents, teachers, staff, and others. This better helps our students through parent education, teacher/administrator consultation, working with district personnel and community members.

Once again, I am excited to be here and look forward to a fantastic school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. I am in Room  and my direct number is (972) 522 - 6610.

Let’s have a great school year!
