School Counselor

Welcome to the school year 2019-2020 at Hector P. Garcia Elementary! As your school counselor I am excited to provide guidance for all our students’ social, emotional and academic needs.  My goals for our students are to be kind and show respect to all peers, teachers and administrators at all times, to apply coping strategies to assist in bringing the mind and body to a calm state and to engage in conflict-resolution techniques with peers. I value college and career readiness and believe in modeling for students disciplined and organizational skills to prepare them for higher education.

Information regarding parent workshops, kindness challenges, service learning projects, attendance incentives, Red Ribbon week, GenTX week and all other campus activities can be found in the newsletters I will be sending and on Twitter @TorosCounselor. Newsletters will also be posted on the school’s website under Counseling Services located in the Our School tab.

I have been with Grand Prairie ISD for nine years. I taught grades kindergarten and second grade. I enjoy seeing children grow and achieve their goals. Please do not hesitate to contact me for assistance. I look forward to serving all our students this school year!

Vision Statement

Our students will achieve and carry-out their academic, career and citizenship goals, whether in their local community or the greater world, with the tools provided to develop their mindset, character and behavior. Students will be leaders skilled in their area of expertise and stewards of social justice.  Our Garcia Toros will be the driving force that brings awareness of global responsibility to the forefront in all industries proving to all individuals that we are not separate but One regardless of our backgrounds and socio-economic status.

Mission Statement

The comprehensive school counseling program is preventive in its framework, responsive to students’ academic, career and social/emotional needs, and nurturing to students’ future leader roles. The program will ensure student achievement through collaboration with students, teachers, parents and administrators and will build students’ college and career readiness through hands-on exploration. Students will be recognized for their citizenship and acts of kindness through promotional campus events.
