Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!
It is my pleasure to have the opportunity this year to lead the staff and students here at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy. With a strong support system from both the Grand Prairie Independent School District (www.gpisd.org) and the Young Women’s Preparatory Network (www.youngwomensprep.org) we are well on our way to becoming an outstanding school offering our young ladies a rigorous curriculum (Pre-AP, AP and Dual Credit courses) as well as sports and fine arts opportunities.
Once our young ladies complete their middle school years they will have the opportunity to apply to stay at YWLA for high school and have pathway choices in such areas as STEM (Biotechnology, Engineering), Business/Marketing with an emphasis on Fashion and Aerospace.
In addition, we will continue to teach character traits such as responsibility, kindness, trustworthiness, etc to our young ladies in order to assure their success in today’s world.
Parents, you are an integral part of your child’s success and please know you are welcome and we hope you will volunteer, attend adult educations classes and attend our evening events – both athletic and academic.
If you have any questions or concerns please call and schedule a meeting.
We are here for you and your child.
I am beginning my 18th year as an administrator, and 16th as a principal. I have served campuses in Nacogdoches, Lancaster and now in Grand Prairie for six years. I spent five years as an educational consultant working with schools throughout Texas in the area of math.
I spent my childhood years in Ohio and Michigan before graduating from high school in Houston, Texas. I am the proud parent of two adult children, Carrie and Christopher and two middle school aged grandchildren, Simon and Hallie.
