Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy is one of the only academies that recognizes and offers beginner mariachi to 6th graders, and intermediate and advanced mariachi at the middle and high school levels. We are focused on the goal of creating and encouraging musicians that wish to flourish in this traditionally filled genre. We are always looking for good men and women to join our growing family of Mariachi Sol Azteca!
JV took 2nd place at TAME in 2020.
Throughout the school year, we perform at a variety of venues. We perform for local Grand Prairie events, the DFW metroplex events and private gigs.
We had an amazing year in 2019-2020 beginning with winning the Mariachi Nationals of Jose Hernandez in California. We performed at the San Antonio Rivercenter bridge and competed in the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza. We had all four of our ensembles, Mariachi Tlaltechutli (JV/MS), Mariachi Metzli (V/MS), Mariachi Tonatiuh (JV/HS) and Mariachi Sol Azteca (V/HS) compete at the TAME Area competition in January. All four groups received a first division rating. The two high school mariachi groups advanced to the state TAME level and our MS varsity group was chosen as the Outstanding Middle school group. Mariachi Metzli got to perform twice at the state level in between the competition for the high school groups. They received standing ovations and many amazing comments for their performances. Mariachi Tonatiuh competed at the first ever JV competition where the won 2nd place. Mariachi Sol Azteca placed 4th in the 6A competition. The two high school groups went on to compete for the UIL area competition where they both received a 1st division for their efforts. Mariachi Sol Azteca qualified for State UIL and received a 1st division trophy for their performance.
We look forward to many more years of amazing memories and travels and hope that you consider becoming a phamily member of Mariachi Sol Azteca.
Varsity competes at UIL.
