  • Quick Q & A about GPISD

May we apply if we live in another school district?
Yes. Grand Prairie ISD is an “open enrollment” district, therefore, you do not have to live in Grand Prairie ISD to choose GPISD for your child.

How do we apply for a school of choice, program of choice or transfer request?
You may apply beginning the Monday following the GPISD Experience. Please refer to the Application Timeline for specific information.

How do I submit my child's application?
Grand Prairie ISD’s application process is 100% online. You will need access to the Internet to apply. Please refer to the Application Timeline for more info.

How can I complete the online application if I do not have internet access?
Computer labs are available for parents to submit their child's application at the GPISD Education Center. Please refer to the Application Timeline for specific lab dates and hours.

What documentation is required to apply?
Students not currently enrolled in Grand Prairie ISD: To determine academic eligibility, all documents listed below are required for students not currently enrolled in Grand Prairie ISD. In the online application, you will have the opportunity to upload the required documents prior to submitting the application. You may also deliver the required documents in person to the GPISD Education Center. All documentation must be submitted before the end of the application period to be considered academically eligible.

    •  Academic Transcript/Academic History
    •  State Assessment Records
    •  Attendance Records (Current Year)
    •  Discipline Records (Current Year)

Students currently enrolled in GPISD schools only need their student ID number to apply. The student’s ID number can be found by logging into Skyward's Family Access (Parent Portal) then selecting the student information link. Your child's Student ID is the "Other ID" number in the General Information area. No documentation is required to apply.

What are GPISD’s Academic Eligibility Requirements?

    • Availability of space
    • Instructional staff
    • 95% attendance rate for the current year
    • Acceptable discipline record for the current year

What if I do not have a way to upload the required documents to the online application?
For assistance with uploading the required documentation to the online application, please visit the computer lab at the GPISD Education Center during designated times. Please refer to the Application Timeline for specific dates and times.

Whom may I call with questions about the application process?
Please call 972-237-5474. If we are unable to answer your call, please leave a brief message with a call back number and we will return your call as soon as possible. You may also email your questions to choice@gpisd.org.

If my child is currently enrolled in a GPISD School or Program of Choice and wishes to continue for the following school year, do I need to re-apply?
Students currently attending a GPISD School of Choice or Program of Choice who wish to stay and continue at that school or program do not need to re-apply for any level other than Pre-K going into Kindergarten. Pre-K students must apply to attend Kindergarten at the same school if the school is not zoned for their residence.

Can I apply for each of the five available online applications?
Yes. Each student, depending on his or her next-year grade level, can submit a single application for each of the five available online applications.

    Lottery/Waitlist
According to the admissions policies documented in the charter, the GPCI will utilize a first-come, first-served application process (TEC §12.117). All applications will be assigned a number and the number will be randomly drawn to fill the allotted spaces for each class. In the event that applications for a class are greater than the number of spaces available, the charter will draw numbers to establish a waiting list. When openings occur, the charter will offer the space to the next person on the waiting list and will continue down the list, accordingly. GPCI will not discriminate on the basis of sex, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic ability, artistic ability, athletic ability or the district the scholar would otherwise attend, providing the child’s residence is within the charter’s geographic boundaries. GPCI reserves the right to exclude a scholar from enrollment if the individual has a documented history of a criminal offense, a juvenile court adjudication, or discipline problems listed under TEC Chapter 37, Subchapter A (TEC §12.11(a)(6)(A).

Online enrollment begins Monday, November 4, 2019, and ends Friday, December 20, 2019. If you have any questions, please contact us directly at 972-343-3120. 2019-2020 Application Timeline
