Dance

  • Welcome to the Dance Department at Garner Fine Arts Academy!

We are excited to provide your students with movement opportunities as well as time to explore their creativity throughout the school year.

Pre-K, Kinder and first grade students focus on the elements of dance in a creative movement style while introducing foundational dance technique.

Second through fifth grade students work on building their technique while incorporating the elements of dance. Styles of dance we will mainly focus on for the year are ballet, tap, jazz, modern, lyrical, and hip hop.

    Dance Attire:

Students do not need to wear traditional dancewear for class, however students should be able to move comfortably on their dance class day. This means wearing pants with some kind of stretch or if a dress/skirt is worn having leggings or shorts underneath. It is also important for students to wear closed toed (flat) shoes on dance day. Wedges, slides and sandals are not appropriate shoes to wear to class. Students may wear dance shoes they have previously purchased if they would like but it is not required. Also, students should make sure their hair is pulled back when coming to dance class. Headbands, Ponytails, braids, buns, etc. are all acceptable and must be secure so they don’t fall out during the middle of class. Students with short hair lengths just need to make sure their hair is out of their face.

Students can bring their own dance shoes to wear but the school has a class set of shoes for students to wear.
