Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Tamara Collins.

Welcome to the Counselor’s Corner! My name is Tamara Collins, and I am excited about serving as the Counselor at Whitt Fine Arts Academy. This is my first year at Whitt, but it is my 11th year as an educator in Grand Prairie ISD. I taught 3rd and 5th grade my first two years in GPISD, and served as a Counselor the other years. I’ve also had the pleasure of teaching English in Seoul, South Korea for one year.

I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in Psychology and my Master’s degree in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University.

My goal is to help provide a safe and nurturing environment to all students. The counseling program provides an array of services, working with students and school staff to facilitate students’ learning and success. Counselors provide instruction and services that focus on the academic, career, and personal/social domains. I love to consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, school administrators, school psychologists, and social workers to develop plans to help students succeed. Elementary school counselors implement the counseling program by providing the following:

  • Classroom Guidance
    • Academic Planning
    • Responsive Services
    • System Support
