Evetta L. McGriff, Counselor

Hello! My name is Evetta McGriff and I am one of the Counselors at De Zavala. This is my 4th year at De Zavala, and I am looking forward to another great school year. My goal as School Counselor is to assist students with their social and emotional needs that may hinder their academic success. I look forward to partnering with parents to ensure their students’ success.

This is my 12th year in education. I have had the pleasure of educating scholars in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade, and I was also a Keystone educator, equipping students with lessons in character education. I have spent all 12 years in Grand Prairie ISD and have enjoyed each year. I am hoping this is the best year yet!

Nedin Glover, Counselor Intern

Welcome parents to another year of great learning here at Lorenzo De Zavala. I am excited to serve for another year as the counselor intern for this campus. I look forward to working with parents, teachers and of course our wonderful students. Together we can all make a big difference in the lives of our students.

This is my sixth year in Grand Prairie ISD and my eleventh year in education. Before becoming a counselor intern, I was a bilingual classroom teacher for grades second and third for nine years. One of the most enjoyable activities as a counselor intern is getting the opportunity to go into classrooms and present guidance lessons.

Counseling Services

  • This year we are excited to be a part of the De Zavala family! Our role as the counselors is to promote the success and well-being of all students. We are here to provide support for students and their families.

As counselors, we have a comprehensive school counseling program to ensure student success.  There are four components to the program:

Guidance-We present classroom lessons in order to develop the students’ self-awareness, and encourage the application of life skills. Some of the topics for these lessons include bullying, harassment, safety, friendship, goal setting, diversity, and drug/alcohol awareness.

Responsive Services- We work to meet the immediate needs of students and their families. As counselors, we address those concerns and help remove barriers to learning through individual or small group counseling. We can also provide referrals to outside agencies to assistance families with shelter, clothing, food, and other needs.

Individual Planning-We help students plan for their future by assisting them in discovering their strengths, setting goals and self-monitoring. We also help them monitor, understand, and control their own behavior, skills, and development. We work with students on social skills acquisition, college/career awareness, and personal relationships.

We work with students on social skills acquisition, college/career awareness, and personal relationships.

System Support- We support the school, staff, parents, and the community by providing parent education, consultation, staff development, community outreach, public relations, as well as professional growth and development. We are able to help our students through collaboration with those who have a vested interest in their success.

We look forward to an exciting year!!
