Welcome to Third Grade! We will have a great year as we learn to become independent readers and writers. We will also learn all about numbers up to 999,999. We will learn how science affects us in our everyday life. Third Grade is a major transition time for students. The focus changes from ‘learning how to read’ to ‘reading in order to learn’. It is also the first time students take the STAAR test in reading and math. We will work together each day to help your child reach his/her full potential. I love the expression: “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!”

As a child I was able to live in many different states because my father was in the Air Force. I've lived in Maine, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, California, and Texas, as well as Canada. My new favorite state is Arkansas because our first two grandchildren live there! (Along with our daughter and son-in-law!) Thankfully, our son and his wife live in the Metroplex. They have blessed us with our third grandchild! I have taught in Grand Prairie for 28 years and seen many changes during that time. It's an exciting and challenging time as students, parents, and teachers work together so that children can learn to meet the demands of the 21st century.
