Mr. Richard Galvan

Richard Galvan has been an Orchestra Director in the Grand Prairie Independent School District since 1993.  His career started years ago as the Orchestra Director at Jefferson Intermediate School and Lee Middle School.  Mr. Galvan taught at Grand Prairie High School for 13 years before joining the faculty of The Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy. His career has been devoted to building and maintaining the orchestra programs in GPISD. However, his ultimate goal is to make his students life-long lovers of music.  

Mr. Galvan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Texas - Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. Mr. Galvan is the Director of Orchestras at The Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy. He is certified to teach All-Level Music Education and A. P. Music Theory.  Under his direction, his orchestras have been consistent recipients of Sweepstakes Awards at UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest. Mr. Galvan is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Orchestra Directors Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association and The American String Teachers Association.  He has studied conducting with Gary Lewis, Donald Schleicher and Jeffrey Grogan.  

In his spare time, Mr. Galvan enjoys spending time with his family, traveling the world, attending live music concerts, volleyball and tennis.
