GPISD Early Release Days in April

  • In February, the GPISD Board of Trustees approved changes to the District’s 2020-2021 school calendar that will give teachers more time for planning as we head into the final months of the school year.

The Board approved two early release days on April 1 and April 23.

    • Elementary Schools – 8:10 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.
    • Middle Schools – 8:50 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.
    • High Schools – 7:35 a.m. - 11:35 a.m.
      • Crosswinds AHS – 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
      • GPCI – 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
      • Dubiski CHS – 8:50 a.m. – 12:50 p.m.

This has been a school year like no other. For GPISD teachers, the challenges are especially demanding as they balance the academic needs of both in-person and virtual learners.

“The work GPISD teachers are doing managing virtual and in person learners is tremendous,” said Superintendent of Schools Linda Ellis. “Our teachers will benefit from this additional time to prepare high quality lessons, analyze student data, and collaborate with their peers to maintain high expectations for every student.”

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why do teachers need extra time to plan and prepare?

Teachers are having to plan and deliver instruction and support for two instructional settings: In-Person and Virtual. All teachers’ workloads have changed dramatically from a normal school year, yet they still have the same amount of planning time. We believe the quality of instruction will improve with teachers having more time to prepare quality lessons, develop assessments, analyze student data and collaborate as a professional learning community.
