Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is CTE?
Career and Technical Education provides diverse and engaging learning environments and offers each student opportunities to personalize his or her education based on career interests and unique learning needs.
-
Which career pathways are available in GPISD?
There are over 30 career pathways across the district, at secondary campuses. Follow this link to see all of the pathways available to you: https://www.gpisd.org/CTE
-
Is there a test to get into the health science programs and pathways?
None of our pathway programs at the high school level require a scholar/applicant to take an exam prior to submitting applications. Please feel encouraged to apply to, and explore, pathways that interest you.
-
Can anyone apply to go to Dubiski Career High School?
Yes, any current or future GPISD student who is successfully completing 8th grade in the 2020-2021 academic year, can apply this winter for acceptance into high school programs across the district.
-
If I don’t submit or complete my application for school of choice to be admitted to the campus that houses my preferred CTE pathway, will I be able to take CTE courses at my attendance zone campus?
Yes. You are highly encouraged to take various CTE electives at your home comprehensive high school. There are many CTE courses at each secondary campus, and high school students, not in a designated pathway, are encouraged to still elect to take various CTE courses that interest them. Counselors and course selections at your home campus are essential to this process.
-
In general, what is an internship? Who gets an internship their senior year?
A CTE internship is an industry-based learning experience that students in designated pathways have the opportunity to explore and interview for during their Practicum course, after 3 or more coherent sequenced courses. A senior student’s internship will be during their Practicum course and includes TEKS.
-
Can I change pathways during high school?
Students are encouraged to research and apply during their 8th grade year to gain acceptance into one of their desired pathways, to design and focus their high school academics around.
