GRAND PRAIRIE—On Saturday, November 3, the community is invited to attend ‘Plastic Free Plan-It,’ a day of fundraising events in an effort to purchase common area recycling infrastructure in Grand Prairie schools. Participants can choose from a matinee or gala event at Uptown Theater, 120 E. Main St.
The matinee event features a screening of A Plastic Ocean, a film that documents the environmental effects of litter in the ocean, displays of recycled material artwork, swag, raffle prizes and more. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the movie begins at 12:45 p.m. Tickets are $10.
The gala will feature a 20-minute showing of A Plastic Ocean, a meet-and-greet with the movie producer, displays of recycled artwork, a recycled orchestra from GPISD, a recycled materials fashion show, raffle prizes and merchandise for sale. Heavy hors-d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50.
The fundraiser is held by Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful, Grand Prairie Solid Waste and Recycling and Grand Prairie Independent School District in an effort to keep Grand Prairie schools nationally recognized for green and clean campuses.
