James Fannin Middle School and SFE, its foodservice partner, hosted a Farmer’s Market for students and staff. The event featured a display of exotic, fresh produce.
The farmer’s market is designed to give students a real farm fresh produce experience. SFE is introducing an array of fresh produce that students don’t see every day. Some of the produce items presented to students were: Carnival Cauliflower, Gooseberries, Baby Rainbow Carrots, Watermelon Radish, Rambutans, Kumquats and Sea Beans.
Students had the opportunity to see, touch and taste these exotic fruits and vegetables during their lunch time. SFE and Grand Prairie ISD Food Services staff were onsite to pass out produce samples, information sheets and answer questions.
SFE Food Services Director Domenik Peterson is excited about this opportunity. “We are so happy to begin the Farmer’s Market program here at GPISD. The students today were so excited to learn about these amazing fruits and vegetables. Look for lots more farm fresh in 2019-2020”.
