Garner Fine Arts Academy Wins Award
Garner Fine Arts Academy in Grand Prairie, TX, won the Arts Schools Network (ASN) 2019 Arts Integration Award. ASN, the nation’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools, presents this award to a school committed to taking innovative and that has “broken the mold” in using the arts as a vehicle for teaching academics and/or making a positive difference in the lives of students and/or the community. The award will be presented at the annual ASN Conference, October 22-25, 2019, in Jacksonville, FL.
Garner Fine Arts Academy is a Grand Prairie ISD public school of choice for Pre-K through 5th grade. We believe in challenging the status quo as we provide students with a rigorous academic environment through arts integration. We utilize teaching strategies that integrate the Texas Essential Knowledge and skills into an arts-based teaching approach. We consistently achieve the highest levels of academic success on state wide assessments. The arts-integrated academic curriculum provided ensures students are ready for the academic challenges they will face on their way to college and career readiness.
All students are provided the opportunity to explore and develop their skills daily in the areas of Visual Art, Music, Dance, Theater, and video Production. As they identify an area of interest and strength, they can audition for specialized performance groups including; show stoppers, drum club, ringers, all-star dancer, all-star ensembles, all-star crew, all-star crew, all-star minnies, playmakers, creates, sketch up, piano club, rock band and video crew. High levels of artistic performances are demonstrated each year as these groups receive awards and honors at the state level. As students move through 5th grade, they are given opportunities to build portfolios as a part of their continued education in fine arts, including the opportunity to attend GPISD’s secondary fine arts campus. Whether the child continues in arts education or choses to explore other interest, the combination of rich arts experiences along with rigorous academic focus provides each of them the strength and self-assurance to be successful
“Arts Schools Network is proud of all of our award recipients this year, and we look forward to recognizing their incredible achievement at our annual conference this fall” says Melissa Brookes, Managing Director of ASN.
