Parent Nomination Results in Money for the Arts  

December 15, 2023 – Grand Prairie ISD’s Garner Fine Arts Academy finds itself in an enviable position. They are the winners of a national contest that comes with much-appreciated funds for the campus.

Earlier this year, a parent at the school nominated Garner in The Children's Place Best School Day Ever 2023 contest. Garner made the list of 10 finalists that then went to a nationwide vote. Garner came out on top as the Grand Prize Winner which comes with a check for $100,000 intended to be used by the school for improvements. 

Principal Erin Whisenhunt and her staff plan to form a committee to determine how those funds will be used to address needs at the school. No matter what the plan includes, the money will benefit Garner’s arts education.

“I'm grateful and humbled in knowing that a donation as large as this comes from organizations who know the power in public education, the value of teaching with the arts, and the love that goes into supporting our kids.” said Principal Whisenhunt.  “I have families and staff who want the absolute best for all of my students, and this donation will be in support of just that!
