Middle School

In GPISD, students shall come to school looking clean and neat, wearing clothing and exhibiting grooming that will not be a health and/or safety hazard to the student or others. Additionally, as SHG Grades 6-8 is located inside of Dubiski Career High School, a professional career and technology institution, students shall come to school adhering to professional standards of dress in the workplace (business professional dress code) above and beyond the GPISD dress code on the designated days. For the 2022-2023 school year the designated days for business professional dress code will be Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays.

Acceptable Business Professional Dress Code for SHG G6-8 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays:

● Slacks
● Dresses (fingertip, conservative neckline)
● Skirts (fingertip length)
● Business appropriate dress shoes and solid/neutral athletic shoes
● Earrings for boys and girls (not of a disruptive nature)
● Tops/Shirts must have a conservative neckline
● Top/Shirts must have collars for men
● Pants must be worn at waist height
● ID Badges MUST be worn around the neck or pinned to a shirt collar AT ALL TIMES
● Solid-colored leggings/tights-acceptable with a fingertip length shirt/dress/skirt
● Small facial piercings that are non-disruptive in nature

Unacceptable Business Professional Dress Code for SHG G6-8 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays:

● Denim jeans, dresses, or skirts
● Shorts
● Untucked and/or uncollared shirts for men
● Sweatshirts, hoodies, athletic gear, etc. (see below for information about PE)
● Jeggings/tight stretch pants/patterned leggings or tights
● Flip-flops, athletic-style slides, Crocs, slippers, UGG-style boots, and brightly colored/patterned athletic shoes
● Anything unacceptable in the GPISD District Dress Code

*For inclement weather, coats with hoods can be worn, but hoods are to be off the head in the building. No hoodies at all on business professional dress code days. A jacket that unzips fully without a hood may be worn.

Acceptable Pursue Your Passion Day (Wednesdays) and Spirit Day (Fridays) Dress Code for SHG G6-8:

● All items listed above, if desired
● ID Badges MUST be worn around the neck or pinned to a shirt collar AT ALL TIMES
● Jeans with no rips or holes
● Long, loose athletic pants (no leggings or shorts)
● Untucked shirts or tops for both men and women
● School appropriate graphic tees
● Sweatshirts
● Hoodies

Unacceptable Pursue Your Passion Day (Wednesdays) and Spirit Day (Fridays) Dress Code for SHG G6-8:

● Jeans with rips or holes
● Shorts (athletic PYP clubs will have an exception)
● Jeggings/tight stretch pants/patterned leggings or tights
● Graphic shirts, sweatshirts, or hoodies with inappropriate words or images
● Flip-flops, athletic-style slides, Crocs, or slippers

Acceptable Clothing for PE

G6 PE is on A Days (Mondays/Thursdays)

G7 PE is on B Days (Tuesdays/Friday)

Both G6 & G7 have PE first thing in the morning.

Students will arrive at school dressed in their appropriate PE clothing and will have a designated time to change clothes at the end of class.

G8 PE is only the first semester and occurs after lunch. G8 students will change into their PE clothes at the beginning of class.

● Athletic shorts
● School appropriate t-shirts with sleeves
● Sweatpants
● Sweatshirts/hoodies
● Yoga pants (as long as the shirt worn naturally falls at least to the student’s fingertips when standing relaxed)
● Tennis shoes with socks

Unacceptable Clothing for PE Middle school
Students are required to dress appropriately for their PE class in order to fully participate in the daily activities. The “dress out” is part of their grade each week.

● Dress pants/Jeans
● Sleeveless t-shirts
● Yoga pants worn with a shirt that does not naturally fall at least to the student’s fingertips when standing relaxed)
● Flip-flops, athletic-style slides, Crocs, dress shoes, or slipper
