Grand Prairie ISD is excited to offer students the unique opportunity to get a head start in college while still in high school through Advanced Placement, Dual Credit and Early College High School.

 

“Advanced Placement” (AP) is a program of college-level courses offered at the high school level that is designed by the College Board. AP courses are available in many subject areas, including English, history, humanities, languages, math, psychology and science. The focus is not on memorizing facts and figures. It's on engaging discussions, approaching and solving problems together and learning to write well. AP courses are open to all students with the prerequisite coursework who wish to take on the additional challenge of advanced academics. As a result, AP students are expected to work at an accelerated pace and to engage in outside reading and independent learning with the support of a College Board authorized instructor. 

Our dual credit programs allow a high school student to earn college credit and high school credit concurrently. Academic dual credit in Grand Prairie ISD may be awarded through various partnering institution of higher learning including University of Texas at Arlington, The University of North Texas at Dallas, Mountain View College, North Lake College, and University of Texas (OnRamps). 

Early College High Schools (ECHS) are innovative programs of choice within high schools that provide students that are traditionally underserved or least likely to attend college with an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and up 60 college credit hours. GPISD has teamed up with Mountain View College to offer two Early College High Schools: Grand Prairie Early College High School and South Grand Prairie Early College High School.
